What are the advantages of ILLiad?

  1. You will find it easier to submit your interlibrary loan requests. With ILLiad you enter your personal information only once, at the time you register as a new user.
  2. Requests are handled more rapidly and accurately as problems relating to misinterpretation of hand-written requests are eliminated.
  3. You will receive most of your documents quickly through electronic delivery.
  4. You can get information about the status of your request through the Web at any time from any location without having to call the Interlibrary Loan Office.
  5. Library personnel are able to serve you better because all data about your request and its handling is stored in a searchable database. We are able to respond quickly to your inquiries about your request. We are also able to gather statistical information about the performance of libraries that lend to us, enabling us to make better decisions when choosing a lender to supply an item.

Is there a charge for interlibrary loan requests?

No. The exception would be that a request incurs a copyright royalty fee. In that case we will notify you and ask if you want to pay.

Is there a limit on the number of requests I can submit at one time?

No, but the library reserves the right to limit the number of requests an individual submits in a given time period.

How long does it take to receive an item?

In most cases a document will be delivered within 2-3 days. In some cases when an item is rare or unusual it will take longer. Books are sent to us by mail and on average take a week or more.

How long can I keep a book or renew a book borrowed through ILLiad?

The length of time you can keep a borrowed book depends on the lending library. If you are interested in renewing a book call or email the Interlibrary Loan Office 3 days before the due date. Some lenders allow renewals and others don't.

As a distance student can I request a book and have it sent to me?

We will only ship books that are in the Rudolph Matas Library collection. We will not borrow a book from another library and send it.

Is security a problem if I use a public workstation?

Yes. Web browsers cache information and create a history file on the local workstation. This allows a subsequent user of the workstation to access the system under your name using the browser's back button. Exit from the Web browser before you leave the workstation.
